Shinpei Nakashima is a guitarist and composer based in Japan.
He began studying classical piano in early childhood and made his professional debut at the age of 18.
In his twenties, he moved to New York, where he immersed himself in the local music scene and studied jazz guitar under legendary guitarist Pat Martino. During this period, he performed at renowned venues including the Cotton Club, while developing his musical voice through extensive live performances and collaborations.
After returning to Japan, he launched his own music project Free Style Collection and released the album of the same name. The album was distributed worldwide through the UK-based label JazzModic Records. Blending jazz with elements of hip-hop, funk, and other genres, the work was ahead of its time and was later featured by a long-running American jazz radio program as one of the “hot jazz albums to listen to now.”
He subsequently released his second leader album Chloe, a solo guitar work created entirely through layered overdubbing. While shifting the sonic world significantly from his previous release, the album further established his distinctive sense of space and atmosphere.
Alongside his musical activities, Nakashima is also active as a writer and researcher focused on birds and nature. He has published several books on birds, including Kokoro Saezuru Yachō Note, which became a bestseller and was reprinted within its first week of release.
Rooted in jazz but unconstrained by genre, his work spans a wide range of musical and expressive forms. Through music and writing alike, he continues to explore sound, space, and the quiet relationships between humans and the natural world.

幼少よりクラシックピアノを学び、１８歳でプロデビュー。
20代で単身ニューヨークに渡る。
長きに渡るアメリカ生活の中でジャズギターの巨匠PatMartinoに師事。伝説のCottonClubに出演するなどニューヨークを拠点に活動を行う。
帰国後、自身の音楽プロジェクト「Free Style Collection」を立ち上げ、同年、同タイトルのアルバム「Free Style Collection」をリリース。（ 英国のレーベルJazzModicRecordsより世界販売中。）
ジャズの概念にとらわれず、ヒップホップやファンクミュージックを混然一体とさせたこのアルバムFree Style Collection。この時代を大きく先取りする形で発表されたるアルバムは、近年、アメリカのラジオ局の老舗ジャズ番組でとりあげられ【今聴くべきホットなジャズアルバム】の１枚として紹介された。
その後、国内外を問わず、ジャンルレスで活躍
近年2枚めのリーダーアルバム「Chloe」を全国リリース。
中嶌真平が得意とする空間を支配するがごときギターの調べ。その調べをオーダーダブすることでたったひとりで作りあげられた「Chloe」は彼の真骨頂ともいえる１枚。
Free Style Collectionとがらりと世界観を変化させつつも、中嶌が放つ独自の空気感は変わらずに私たちを魅了してやまない。
また近年、野鳥や自然の情報発信も行なっており『ココロさえずる野鳥ノート（文一総合出版）』を出版。
発売１週間で重版が決まるなど、野鳥関連本ではトップクラスの売り上げを誇る人気作品となる。
『身近な「鳥」の素顔名鑑（SBクリエイティブ）』は、身近な鳥の魅力を膨大な論文や文学・伝承、報道ニュースなどを題材に、多角的に表現した作品。鳥類の魅力を伝える内容となっている。
Jazzを根底にもちながらHipHop,Funk,Classicなど演奏は多岐にわたり、日本の音楽シーンの最先端を開拓、牽引するミュージシャンのひとりでありながら、自然への敬意を発信する姿勢に世界からの注目も熱い。
